Half A Day in DC
This was a one day trip. Flew the first flight in & booked a late one going out.
I landed at Dulles International pretty early. I probably spent about an hour or so trying to determine my best route to the Washington Mall using the Metro. At some point between pacing back and forth to the information desk, I bought a caramel Macchiato from Starbucks and spilled it on my shirt. Oh, joy. So, I went to the restroom and put my shirt on backwards and wore a cardigan to disguise the now awkward fit of my shirt lol.
Anyway, I finally catch a bus. I caught the 5A bus for basically free because I still had credit on my Metro card from Chicago the previous year and coincidentally, they all use the same fare system.
…about 45minutes later, passing by the Pentagon, and the Veterans’ cemetery I get off the bus at D street & 7th street and walk about 7 minutes to the National Mall. I had a real moment. It was pretty surreal to be here. The first thing I remember recognizing even before I got off the bus was the Washington Monument. So, I walked there first. I spent a lot of time here trying to capture the perfect picture. Still no luck. Lol
After the monument, I went along the entire Washington Mall including the Martin Luther King Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, & the Washington Monument. I had done sooooo much walking.
After walking the mall, I used Google Maps to locate the White House. I finally found it! The White House of course. I hate I couldn't get a better quality image but if you consider the fence, the grass, and the secret service, this was really the best I could get from a phone. Below is the official Christmas Tree of the White House.
There were a lot of street vendors in the area so I grabbed a slice of pizza to eat. Whenever I travel, I don't put a lot of emphasis on food. I just grab something quick and keep it moving.
I hate that I didn't stop by the Smithsonian Museums but will make them a priority on my next visit.
